St. Croix Tribal AMVETS Post 1993

AMVETS is a National Veterans Organization. In the early 1990’s, Tribal member Teddy Nelson worked diligently to spearhead the development of an AMVETS Post in the St. Croix Community. The St. Croix AMVETS Post 1993 was established in 1993. After the passing of some of St. Croix’s AMVETS Post 1993 members and officers’ activity dwindled. Recently, St. Croix AMVETS Post 1993 was revitalized, and a new building was dedicated to serve as the AMVETS Post in 2018. The St. Croix AMVETS Post 1993 recognizes all men and women of all nationalities as Veterans of all branches of service, in Peacetime and War.

The AMVETS organization has grown significantly throughout the years, but its purpose still remains the same; Veterans serving Veterans, as it strives to help Veterans and their families in as many ways as possible. Its first membership drive recently brought approximately 30 veterans requesting to become members of POST 1993.

A few of AMVETS goals are to inspire a sense of responsibility to its communities and support its youth toward becoming purposeful citizens. POST 1993 currently assists Veterans and their families with needs such as rehabilitation, housing, education, personal issues, help in their employment search, recreation, help in getting medical care, act as a liaison agent between the Veteran and the Government, just to name a few ways AMVETS strive to help with the intent of “making the road a little easier to travel” so to speak.

St. Croix AMVETS Post 1993 has created its own fund raisers to better assist its veterans’ request for assistance and to develop a retreat/living center for those in need. AMVETS are proud to honor its deceased members when called upon. AMVETS honor their Veteran Heroes with their Color Guard and will attend holiday and memorial functions, celebrations, burial rites, and other events as it receives requests for notifications.

The St. Croix AMVETS Post 1993 had its Charter presented June 24, 2016 at the State AMVETS Annual Conference. The St. Croix AMVETS Post is located in the St. Croix Community of Sand Lake Hertel just off Highway 70, and shares a parking lot with the St. Croix Tribal Justice Center.

The St. Croix AMVETS Post 1993 recognizes all men and women of all nationalities as Veterans of all branches of service, in Peacetime and War.
