About the Committee

The St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin is seeking Tribal Members interested in serving on the Forgiveness Committee established under Title 3, Chapter 2 Forgiveness Ordinance.

The Committee reviews requests for forgiveness involving certain restrictions or ineligibilities related to Tribal employment, housing, occupational licenses, certifications or permits issued by the Tribe, other Tribal benefits, and banishment from Tribal territory. The Committee consists of at least three (3) Tribal Members and must have an odd number of members. 

Committee Responsibilities

  • Establish internal standard operating procedures necessary to govern the Forgiveness Committee’s proceedings;
  • Review and process forgiveness applications in an orderly and expeditious manner;
  • Review background investigation information provided through the Human Resources Department;
  • Conduct and preside over forgiveness hearings;
  • Consider information and testimony presented as part of the forgiveness process;
  • Provide formal written recommendations to the Tribal Council to approve or deny forgiveness requests;
  • Taking other actions reasonably related to the purpose of the Committee; and
  • Fully comply with St. Croix Tribal law, including Title 3, Chapter 2 Forgiveness Ordinance;

Committee members are expected to attend all scheduled meetings. Forgiveness hearings are open to the public. Committee members shall be compensated for their participation in accordance with the Committee and Board Member policy.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be an enrolled member of the St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin; and
  • Be at least 25 years of age.

Meeting Information

The Committee conducts quarterly forgiveness hearings and may meet at other times as necessary to carry out its responsibilities.

Additional Information

Committee members will be appointed in accordance with the Forgiveness Ordinance and applicable Tribal Council action. Submission of an application does not guarantee appointment.
