Wanda McFaggen
Position/Department: Director Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO)
My experience, education, or background:
My experience as the Tribal Historic Preservation Program Director/Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO) has been 20+ years of learning experience, of which I have had many challenges in learning federal laws and regulations that surround the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the Native American Graves
Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990 (NAGPRA), and the Archaeological Resources & Protection Act (ARPA) I was also able to re-involve the tribe in the Wisconsin Inter-tribal Repartition Committee, (WITRC) which is a sub-committee of the Great Lake Inter-Tribal Council and acts as a unified voice to repatriate and reinter ancestral remains and works to see proper procedures are followed to prevent the desecration of burials.
My education includes, Indian Land Associate, Level I — Los Angeles California, Research and Writing Band Histories — University of Oklahoma, Federal Law – Vermont Law School, Cultural Resources on Forested Lands — University of Minnesota, Cultural & Diversity Awareness, Itasca Community College.
I was born in Oregon during the relocation era but grew up on the north side of Chicago. My mother was Irene Taylor and my father Cleon McFaggen. I have five children, 3 daughters and 2 sons and many grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
I spend a lot of my time sewing, star quilts, regalia, pretty much anything from a photo I can do. I hope to have my own home-based business when I retire and I do business classes virtually. I love traveling, sightseeing, watching history/archaeological, paranormal and crime shows. I do some volunteer work in my community, I shared moccasin making, regalia ins and outs and teaching sewing processes. Thank you for your time.
