Position Summary: The Tribal Veterans Services Officer provides support to tribal veterans and their

families by offering information, advocacy, access to benefits, and outreach services. The position serves

as a liaison between tribal, state, and federal agencies to ensure veterans are aware of and can access

benefits and programs they are entitled to.

Essential Functions:

Advise tribal members who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces regarding veteran benefits and

assist with applications, including preparing forms, gathering supporting documents, and

submitting applications.

Examples include GI Bill, disability benefits, pension benefits, survivor benefits, health/medical

insurance, home loans, and other applicable programs.

Assist veterans and their families in resolving complaints or issues related to veterans benefits.

Maintain relationships and collaborate with federal, state, and other tribal agencies providing

support or benefits to veterans.

Maintain accurate files, databases, and records of veteran services activities, contacts, and

referrals.

Provide oversight and management of any tribal veteran services grants applicable to the position.

Attend trainings and conferences related to veterans services to stay informed of legislative and

policy changes.

Present reports to the Tribal Council.

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Scope and Complexity: Interacts with all levels of management and employees; often trusted with

maintaining confidentiality and relaying highly sensitive information, and appropriate application of

business operations and practices.

Physical Demands/Environment Factors: OE-Typical Office Environment: (Accountant,

Administrative Assistant, Consultant, And Program Manager) – Examples listed below:

● Requires extensive sitting with periodic standing and walking.

● May be required to lift up to 25 pounds.

● Requires significant use of personal computer, phone and general office equipment.

● Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects.

● Need ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on

the telephone.

● May require off-site travel.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a veteran of the United States Armed Forces.

Demonstrated ability to assess veteran and community needs and formulate effective action plans.

Proficiency in computer applications and database management.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff and management.

Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

Commitment to timeliness, accuracy, and attention to detail.

Native American Preference Given in Accordance with P.L. 93-638 and Amendments.
